Assignment 1: Steps of Creating the E-Wallpaper

Original Photos:

Steps:
Step 1: Crop the elephant by using Polygonal Lasso Tool and Eraser Tool.

Step 2: Some part of the legs of the elephant are blocked by the grass. Therefore, Clone Stamp Tool and Healing Brush Tool are used to regain the legs by using the first leg (the complete leg) as the sampling. Of course, we can resize the elephant into the size we want by pressing Ctrl+T keys.

Step 3: As usual, by using the Polygonal Lasso Tool and Erase tool to crop the lady out. Use Rectangular Marquee Tool to copy and paste the lady into our main project file. As you can see now the lady’s dress looks very stiff on the elephant back. It does not look like it is following the elephant body. Therefore the next step is to make the dress looks more natural on the elephant back

Step 4: Go to Filter>Liquify. By using the Forward Warp Tool and Pucker Tool to make the dress looks like it is flowing according to the elephant body.

Step 5: Use Rectangular Marquee Tool to copy the wings to the main project file. Resize the wings by pressing Ctrl+T.

Step 6: By using the Healing Brush Tool and Eraser Tool to blend the front wings into the elephant skin.

Step 7: Use Rectangular Marquee Tool to copy the sky picture to the main project file. Resize it by pressing Ctrl+T to the size of our canvas size. Drag the layer to the bottom to make it as the background layer.

Step 8: Crop the moon by using Magic Wand Tool and copy the cropped moon picture to the main project file by using Rectangular Marquee Tool. Resize it as usual by pressing Ctrl+T.

Step 9: Use the Eraser Tool to erase off some part of the moon and the elephant feet to make it looks like the moon is hiding behind the cloud and the elephant is walking on the cloud. You can play around with the hardness option for the Eraser Tool to get the suitable hardness of the Eraser Tool to create the suitable effect that you are looking for.

Step 10: Create a new layer. Select Brush Tool, set the foreground color to be black. Set the layer option to Overlay. Brush and create the shadow below the elephant’s legs on the cloud.

Step 11: From the picture above you can see that I make some color changes to the elephant and also the lady. In order to do that, go to Image>Adjustment>Color Balance. I added more blue in the color of the elephant but added more yellow in the color of lady in order to make the color of both of them to match.

This is the latest result of the work. We are going to proceed the steps to make the whole picture look like it is in a dreamy world or a fantasy world.

Step 12: Create a new layer, set the layer option to Overlay. Select the foreground color to blue color (#2e496e). Use the Paint Bucket Tool to fill in the blue color to the layer. Set the opacity to 30%. Now you can get the blue color shadow effect of the picture. You can sense the difference by comparing this picture with the previous picture.

Step 13: To create the golden brown shadow effect, we just need to use back the same method in Step 12. Just that this time instead of using blue, we are using brown (#553c0a) color and the opacity of the layer set to 45%.

Step 14: I feel that the color of the sky from the previous picture is not dark enough to make it match with the moon. Therefore, I created a new layer on top of the sky layer. By using the Paint Bucket Tool I fill in the layer with blue (#2e496e) color. Set the layer option to Overlay. Then I link the layer with the sky layer by pressing Ctrl+Alt and click in between of the both layers.

Step 15: On the sky layer, add the effect of Inner Glow. Set the color of the Inner Glow as black color, Blend Mode for Inner Glow as Color Burn, Opacity of Inner Glow is 38%, Size of Inner Glow as 234px and Rage of Inner Glow as 68%.

Step 16: Add an Adjustment Layer of Curves to make the color of the picture sharper.

Step 17: Add wordings by using Horizontal Type Tool. I will list down the font and the effect that I used for all the wordings in my work.

Multimedia University, Faculty of Management (Impact): Drop Shadow, Inner Shadow, Bevel and Emboss

Open Day 2010 (Impact): Drop Shadow, Inner Shadow

21st March (Impact): Drop Shadow

Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Study Mode (Impact): Drop Shadow, Bevel and Emboss

Bachelor of ....... (Franklin Gothic Demi Cond): Drop Shadow

Reach the Unreachable, the World Beyond Your Dreams (Script MT Bold): Drop Shadow, Outer Glow, Inner Glow, Bevel and Emboss-Contour, Gradient Overlay

Step 18: Go to Filter>Render>Lens Flare to create the Lens Flare effect at the wording of 2010.

Step 19: Before I end this project, I realize that I forgot to add some shadow of the wings. Hence, I create a new layer on top of the layer of the lady. Choose the layer option as Overlay. Set the foreground color to Black and select Brush Tool to paint the shadow below the wing.

This is the final result of the wallpaper that I created. Hope you like it. Thank You.
